This rare pair of antique grape pickers' hod, or hotte from Avignon are hand-painted with the Chateau Neuf Du-Pape name and crest. Once essential for harvesting grapes, these galvanised metal hods were worn on the back. The original straps are still present but not intact.
As mechanical picking has taken over, these traditional hods have become increasingly rare. Dating from 1880 to 1940, this piece features charming folk art decorations and honors the rich history of the Gironde region and the 14th-century Pope's residence in Avignon.
Perfect as decorative accents for dried flowers or as log holders for your fireplace, these hods can also be hung on the wall.

Condition report- They are in good overall condition, showing signs of wear from age and use, including light scratches and scuffs, as shown in the photos. The back straps are not in tact. One small, hole in the base of one hod.
